CG Lyle Lobbies for Embassy Speakers Program at Huazhong Agricultural University
April 22, 2009: CG Wendy Lyle visited Huazhong (Central China) Agriculture University to establish a closer relationship and promote U.S. Embassy and Consulate General’s Speaker Program and other exchange programs. CG took the opportunity to secure the university’s agreement to host Embassy officers’ visit and presentations at the university in early May. Established in 1898, the university was the first teaching and research institute in China. It has a group of world-renowned Chinese scientists on agricultural and animal genetics and breeding as part of its faculty. It has over 21,000 students and is ranked one of the best universities in China. The university has run over 20 joint programs with its long-time partner Cornell University. It has worked regularly with UC Davis, University of Denver, University of Arizona, and University of Minnesota to conduct agricultural research projects. The university is also a partner of both DuPont and the Audubon Society. Over half of its faculty members were trained in the U.S., and the U.S. remains the top choice for its professors and students for overseas advanced education and training.
