ConGen Wuhan and Virtual Presence Post (VPP) Nanchang Representatives Meet Jiangxi Government Leaders to Promote Closer Relationships
April 25-30, 2009: Consul General Wendy Lyle and Embassy officers Margaret Hsiang and Brooke Spelman, who represent Virtual Presence Post (VPP) Nanchang, visited Jiangxi Province to reach out to Jiangxi government leaders to cultivate closer ties and lobby for constructive collaborative projects. A series of meetings with influential local government leaders took place with excellent results.

During their visit to Nanchang and Jiujiang, the U.S. delegation was warmly greeted by Executive Deputy Mayor of Nanchang Zhao Dongliang and Jiujiang Executive Deputy Mayor Xiong Yongqiang, escorted by local foreign affairs officers from Jiangxi, Nanchang and Jiujiang. Consul General Lyle also took time to visit with Deputy Secretary-General of Jingdezhen Yu Leming.

To respond to Chinese central government’s “Central China Rises Initiative” and “Sustainable Development Movement,” government leaders of Jiangxi, Nanchang, Jiujiang and Jingdezhen have stepped up their efforts to reach out to foreign countries to solicit constructive ideas. During the meetings, Consul General Lyle explained the roles of the newly established Consulate and VPP Nanchang in building closer ties with Jiangxi.

Deputy Mayors Zhao Dongliang and Xiong Yongqiang expressed strong support for ConGen Wuhan’s outreach efforts and lobbied hard for the Consulate’s help to build closer ties with the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and AmCham Central China. Jiangxi leaders sincerely hope to work more closely with the U.S. government, and academic and business leaders to promote enduring bilateral relationships.
