Senior Political Leaders in Western Hubei Warmly Welcome Consul General Lyle
June 17-23, 2009: As part of her visit to western Hubei, Consul General Lyle met with Yichang Mayor Li Lecheng, Jingzhou Mayor Wang Xiangxi and the head of Changyang Tujia Minority Autonomous County Lv Xuefeng during her courtesy calls. Consul General Lyle took the opportunity to talk about ConGen Wuhan’s current outreach activities and future plans. She extended warm greetings to the senior political leaders to lobby for their support for U.S. programs.

The senior leaders responded by expressing a keen desire to build closer ties with the U.S. with the help of the U.S. Consulate General in Wuhan. They fully endorsed Consul General Lyle’s efforts and brainstormed collaborative programs with her during their respective meetings with her. Mayor Li of Yichang and Tujia County Chief Lv highlighted the needs to nurture small businesses, women leaders, minority culture and sustainable economic projects. While applauding Consul General Lyle’s recognition of Jingzhou’s rich antiquities and vibrant multi media activities, Mayor Wang of Jingzhou urged Consul General Lyle to better understand his efforts in building modern villages in the Honghu area to improve the living standards of farmers.
