70 attendees, including 25 students from Wuhan University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications, 15 Changjiang Daily reporters, and employees of AmCham, crowded the conference room for an energetic two-hour interaction in English to strengthen their English speaking skills and communicate effectively with Consul General Lyle, Chairwoman Janie Corum, and two 2010 U.S. Fulbright scholars, John Zheng and Bo Peng.

Ms. Corum engaged the Chinese to talk about basic American values and American entrepreneurship. Consul General Lyle worked with the students to talk in English without feeling embarrassed. During rounds of designed interactions, Chinese participants expressed their thoughts energetically in American English with the American attendees, and sang an American song to express their gratitude. Wuhan TV was on site to record the lively event, and aired a three-minute report as part of its 9 pm “Wuhan Express” news magazine show, with interviews with Chairwoman Corum, Consul General Lyle and a Chinese participant as inserts. The program reached six million viewers in Wuhan.
