Ambassador Randt and U.S. Consulate General Wuhan Lyle Reach out to American Business Leaders in Central China
November 20-21, 2008: With trade promotion as one of the key goals for establishing the U.S. Consulate General Wuhan, a number of outreach events were carried out to reach out to American business leaders in central China. During his visit to Wuhan, Ambassador Randt attended a special luncheon sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China), escorted by senior Embassy officials and Consul General of Wuhan Wendy Lyle, and addressed over 100 American business leaders from Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan. Amb. Randt talked about the important role of the private sector in shaping a constructive relationship between the U.S. and China. He also addressed questions on the impact of China’s recent economic initiatives to stimulate its economy. AmCham China Chairman James Zimmerman took the opportunity to introduce newly elected executive members of AmCham Central China and offered strong support for the establishment of the US Consulate General Wuhan.
As a way to demonstrate the enthusiasm of the business sector, over 20 AmCham China and AmCham Central China members attended the U.S. Consulate General Wuhan’s ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening reception to witness the historic moment and congratulate Consul General Lyle, who has worked very closely with the business community since her arrival in November 2007.
On November 21, Consul General Lyle and Minister Counselors Linda Donahue and Don Q. Washington attended an event organized by American and Chinese business leaders in Wuhan to celebrate the opening of the U.S. Consulate General Wuhan. Consul General Lyle delivered remarks at the reception to endorse the outreach efforts and network with Wuhan’s growing international community.
