Consul General in Wuhan

 

Ms. Wendy Lyle was named the first Consul General of American Consulate General in Wuhan in July 2007.  Ms. Lyle began her foreign affairs career with the U.S. Information Agency in 1979.  Previously, Ms. Lyle served as the Public Affairs Officer and spokesperson for the Consulate General in Shenyang from 1991-1993 and for the Consulate General in Guangzhou from 2002-2005.  She has served a number of domestic assignments in the State Department, including in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Bureau of Public Affairs.   

From 1979-1984, Ms. Lyle was a radio anchor with the Voice of America’s Chinese Language Service.  She recorded “English 900” and compiled the “Intermediate American English” radio series.  She was a TV producer and anchorwoman with USIA-Worldnet TV from 1994-1999, broadcasting to China and other Mandarin-speaking areas in East Asia. 

Ms. Lyle was born in Taiwan.  She holds a Masters in Chinese Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BA in English from Tamkang University in Taipei.  She taught Chinese Language and Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University.  Ms. Lyle is married to Thomas E Lyle.
